The constitution of India has guaranteed equal rights for both men and women. But in practice, women in India do not enjoy the same position as men. 

Since her birth, a girl child does not get as much attention from the members of her family as does a boy. The age-old customs of patriarchal structure, heir to property, and the fear and burden of dowry continue to dictate people to favour and pamper the male child. A girl child is deprived of her education more than often. Some people still believe that a girl’s ultimate destiny is to get married and do the household chores. In some cases, women are paid less than their male counterparts for the same job. 
Hence everyone should join hands to shun gender discrimination.
